Main Passing Through mural site

Here is the site of the main Passing Through mural. It is located on Interstate 76 East at the Girard Avenue underpass. The zoo is directly above at 34th and Girard. The image you see now was painted in 1994 by Jane Golden, director of the Mural Arts Program. Work at this site will begin in July and will be complete in October 2004.

First National Conference on Mural Arts

mural_arts_conferenceJune 3-6 was the first national conference on Mural Arts, held by Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program. The event was a huge success and brought together muralists and administrators from all over the country to talk about creating, budgeting and preserving murals. Meg Saligman gave a hands on Master Class. Sue Spolan, text director, explained the Passing Through concept, and then participants went out to one of the sites, at 15th and Spruce Streets, to put the first Passing Through mural on the wall. Here's Meg lecturing.
